Guitarbuilding day 9
Today we entered a new step of the guitarbuilding. Not many of the participants I have had thru the years have sprayed laquer before. That was the case even this time. After sanding the guitar bodies and necks down to 240 grit paper we all went into the spraybooth. If you have not hold a spraygun before you do not know what to expect, except that when you push the trigger, the laquer will start to come. So if you only have the right presure on the trigger, the right distance from what you spraying and move the spraygun with the right speed , well then everything comes out great! After a long run thru it was time for the first one to start. After the first few very unsecure seconds all did pretty well and we got three layers down, with out to much dripping. Tomorrow we will start with sanding the surface back to hopefully flat again and then we will lay down another three layers of laquer. So now it is only three days left until all goes home with some beautiful guitars. Michael

Guitarbuilding day 8
Now we are close to spraying the laquer. Today all have shaped their necks. It is usually a very tens day and so it was today. Everybody was very concentrated. It is fun process to shape the neck and I am sure they all liked it. All necks came out really well. I think everybody knows how a neck feels but so hard to make.
I hope you will follow us now when we will start doing the laquering. Michael

Guitarbuilding day 6
What a week! I think that all the participants agree. From zero to four finished bodies in six days and tomorrow the necks will be fitted and the fretboards glued. Our store have also been filled with customers and friends. And to top an already hectic week we also got four new orders for guitars, sold one finished guitar, three Tanglewood amps and some strings!
The four new guitarbuilders has now become good friends and they even share the smallest workbench. As you might have seen on the previous pictures we also this year have a female student. Annika Dronge, from New York but are now living in Gothenburg. Her heritage his one of a kind. Her father is Mark Dronge, owner of DR strings and his father started the guitar company Guild. Annikas mother is the daughter of Herman Levin! And today her uncle Göran Levin stopped by for a visit. Göran was the last owner of the Levin company. I am very happy that he stopped by. When I grew up my father owned a Levin jazz guitar which I learned to play on. So when Göran came I was very happy that he wanted to be on a picture with me and the guitar.
After a week like this I am very satisfied that I, 30 year ago, decided to stick with guitarbuilding. Michael

The fourth day of guitarbuilding
Today the class worked hard to get the bodies glued together. It is a lot of measuring, cutting, routing and checking over and over again. The bracing have to have full contact with the sides. We also had time to cut the slots for the frets and all did get a chance at the saw. Even if it is very nice summer weather outside we only take short brakes and all seems to be totally into building. I have not mention what kind of models they are building. Two are building dreadnoughts and two are building 000. Back and sides are east-indian rosewood and the tops are sitka spruce. I do not think the participants realise how good these guitars are going to both sounds and looks. Tomorrow they will have the body to work with. It is time to route out for the bindings, bend the bindings and then fit and glue them in place. So it will for sure be a full day. Michael

Second day of guitarbuilding
The second day everybody is working like they have never done anything else. The concentration level is very high. All do what the teacher tell them and I am confident that all of them will go home with a beautiful guitar.
So, now the second day they all have bent the sides and glued all the kerfed linings. Two have already glued all the bracing on both top and back. We have started to glue the necks and tomorrow we will prepare the sides so we can glue together the first bodies.
Hope you stay in tune with us. Michael
