FINISHED!! The mandolin is finished! I was really surprised by the sound being the first instrument I have built with a mahogany top. It is clear and very well balanced and with much longer sustain than I expected.
And the looks! I am very pleased with the hole thing. Old but new and nice to play. I am usually not very exited when a new instrument is finished, don´t get me wrong, I like my instruments but after 30 years and almost 400 guitars and mandolins you get use to it. But this mandolin have been really fun from the start, to redesign and build. Having put together everything in my head and the follow it thru to actually see that it works is a great reward. Now we only hope that everybody else like it.
And now I am half way into the SRB and the next mandolin, which feels good. Now I am convinced that the sound will be great also in the guitar.
Tomorrow I will get some extra help in the workshop. My grandson Malcolm, five years old, will come and help me out. He is very good to have around and when he was only one year old his grandfather told him to say bandsaw :)
See check out the blog tomorrow and see what we have been up to. /Michael
